The Importance of Studying the Word of God
June 27, 2011
I am so thankful that God has called me to a church where folks still believe
that the entire Word of God is true, when so many have fallen away from the
truth. Please allow me to stress once again the importance of staying in the
Word of God.
God's Word tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16 that "all scripture is given by inspiration
of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction and for
instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be thoroughly furnished
unto all good works." God has given us all that we need in His Word to live a
holy life. The problem is that there are too many of God's people that do not
know what the Word of God says, because they do not take the time to read it.
I have heard over and over again people that will say, "Well, I don't agree with
what the Bible says about that."
What we must understand is that the Bible isn't just some other book that was
written by some ordinary man or woman, the Bible was inspired by God
Himself! God used men to write the Bible, but they were inspired to write what
"God" told them to write. When preachers get behind the pulpit to preach, folks
must understand that a preacher is simply proclaiming what God already said.
Any message that is preached from the Word of God should be preached, "Thus
saith the Lord".
I do realize there are many preachers today that are proclaiming, "thus saith
the preacher", instead of "thus saith the Lord". These men, as well as each of
us, are going to give an account for what they have taught from the Bible. Once
again, I encourage each of you to get into the Word of God and grow in the
knowledge and grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
